Phnom Penh: On March 2, 2026, Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, announced that during the second inspection by the expert team on the morning of March 2, 2026, it was found that the cases of fainting and death in Kandal province were not caused by improper implementation of occupational safety and health conditions.

Mr. Sun Mesa clarified: “According to the inspection of working conditions and occupational safety and health conditions, especially related to the work environment, heat, lighting, dust, and ventilation systems, the labor inspection team found that the occupational safety and health conditions at the workplace were not the cause of the workers fainting.”

According to Mr. Sun Mesa, on the morning of March 2, the workers went to work as usual. Among the 20 workers who fainted, 18 returned to work normally, while 2 others requested leave. Meanwhile, the deceased’s family received a funeral allowance of 10 million riels according to the law, while the Ministry of Labor’s Social Security Fund (SSF) expert team on March 2, 2026, is preparing a life insurance investigation to provide benefits to the family according to the law. This was confirmed by Mr. Sun Mesa.

He added: “With the attention of His Excellency the Minister, the expert team inspected immediately on February 27, and we inspected again today to clarify the issues that occurred. Now, the workers have returned to work normally, and among the 20 workers who fainted, 18 have returned to work. However, we continue to closely monitor the situation to prevent any further incidents.”

Please note that on February 27, 2026, a female worker named Yum Rin, aged 34, died from a brain hemorrhage at 7 a.m. after watching shocking news about a traffic accident that caused her to be startled, dizzy, and faint at the workplace, losing her life on the way to the hospital. At the same time, 20 other workers, her colleagues, also fainted one after another after hearing the news of Yum Rin’s death.
