Svay Rieng: Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, has expressed a grand vision and encouraged Svay Rieng Province to become a major economic potential province filled with factories and enterprises replacing the agricultural sector.

Svay Rieng Province has historically been a difficult province for agriculture due to the unproductive soil conditions. Therefore, it can shift from rice cultivation to establishing factories and enterprises. During the official inauguration of the Andoung Teuk Srey factory in Svay Rieng city and the commencement of the construction of five clean water infrastructure expansion projects in the province on March 26, 2026, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated that Svay Rieng Province has been a difficult province for agriculture due to the unproductive soil conditions. Hence, it can shift from rice cultivation to creating more factories and enterprises.

Because of these soil conditions, the Prime Minister instructed the governor of Svay Rieng Province not to let this province become one with a bad reputation that affects the economy due to security issues such as online scams.

Samdech Thipadei confirmed that if security, safety, and order are good, it will attract investment and create more investment growth. In 20 years, factories will not only be limited to Bavet city but may spread around the province and city as well.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet stated, “I say, there is no need to plant rice or anything else; plant factories instead. How many tons of rice can one hectare produce? Think about the money value going up and down. But if you plant factories producing industrial products, the products do not easily decrease in price like agricultural products. Ten hectares of land used to support only 10 families; now, those 10 hectares can be transformed into a special economic zone that can support tens of thousands of families. Ten hectares of land that used to generate only 1 million dollars for Cambodia can be transformed into an industrial zone that can become a billion-dollar area.”
