LONDON: A London-based maritime analytics firm has warned that US signals of possible military action, including possible sanctions and blockades, in the Strait of Hormuz following the failure of US-Iran talks in Pakistan are adding to the instability in the shipping environment.
According to a report published by Windward, Washington’s move has created a second layer of control over the strait, meaning ship movements could be affected not only by Iranian restrictions but also by possible US actions.
It noted that the Strait of Hormuz is operating as a “controlled and unstable” system where the risk of direct confrontation between state actors is increasing. .
Data showed that on Saturday, a total of 17 ships passed through the strait, including seven incoming ships and 10 outgoing ships. Inbound traffic included four oil tankers and three cargo ships, while outgoing traffic included five oil tankers, one large cargo ship and four cargo ships.
