WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has announced that the US Navy will begin closing the Strait of Hormuz to ships attempting to enter or leave it after peace talks with Iran failed to reach a deal.
“From now on, the United States Navy, the finest navy in the world, will begin the process of closing all ships attempting to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said in a message on Truth Social.
“I have also instructed our Navy to search for and block all ships in international waters that have made payments to Iran,” he said, adding, “Nobody who makes illegal payments will have safe passage at sea.”
He added, “We will also begin to destroy the mines that Iran has placed in the Strait.”
On the peace talks, Trump said the meeting “went very smoothly” with most of the points agreed upon, but the only point that really matters is the nuclear weapons issue, which is the main point.
