On April 15, 2026, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of the People, held talks with Mr. To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of the Republic of Vietnam, who is on a state visit to China.
Xi Jinping said that the Chinese side is willing to work with the Vietnamese side to promote high-quality, comprehensive strategic cooperation. Upholding the socialist system and the ruling position of the Communist Party of China is the most important common strategic interest of the two parties. The two sides should join hands to follow the path of modernization, jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism, and jointly respond to global challenges. 2026 marks the fifth anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and ASEAN. The Chinese side is willing to increase coordination with regional countries to build a more cohesive China-ASEAN community of shared future.
In response, To Lam said that the Vietnamese side supports the one-China policy and is willing to increase strategic coordination with China to better manage the land border area and safeguard maritime peace. The Vietnamese side supports the global development initiative, the global security initiative, the global civilization initiative and the global governance initiative of Comrade Xi Jinping and is willing to work with China to promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
After the meeting, the heads of state of the two countries witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements between China and Vietnam in areas such as inter-party relations, public security, economy, media, customs, technology and civil society, and met with representatives of young people from both countries who had just completed a study tour of the history of the Red Revolution.
At noon on the same day, Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted a banquet for Mr. To Lam and his wife at the Great Hall of the People.
