Foreign Affairs: According to RT’s report, citing the Wall Street Journal, the Pentagon has reached out to major US automakers General Motors and Ford to negotiate the production of weapons and military equipment.
General Motors already supplies military vehicles to the Pentagon through its defense manufacturer GM, while Ford has not had any major military contracts in the past.
The discussions reportedly involved senior executives and focused on whether civilian factories could be redirected to produce munitions and other military supplies as Washington seeks to replenish stockpiles depleted by the Ukraine conflict and the war on Iran.
The report added that GE Aerospace and vehicle and machinery maker Oshkosh were also involved in the talks, which began before the US-Israeli war against Iran began on February 28.
Officials have been pushing for the move as a move to revive World War II-era manufacturing, when Detroit automakers stopped making cars to make bombers, aircraft engines and trucks.
