Iran military closes Strait of Hormuz again as US Navy continues to block passage

Foreign Affairs: A day after announcing its reopening, the Iranian military command said the Strait of Hormuz has been closed again, citing the ongoing blockade by the US Navy.

‎According to The Economics Times published on April 18, 2026, the Iranian government on Friday announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been fully opened to commercial vessels for the remainder of the ceasefire period in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon. However, Trump also said that the US naval blockade on Iran would remain in place until Iran agreed to a broader deal, particularly on its nuclear program.

‎On the nuclear issue, Trump said, “The United States will get all the nuclear ‘radioactive’ material created by our great B2 bombers – no money will change hands in any way, shape or form,” implying that the US B2 bomber strike had stockpiled uranium that the US would now recover.

‎He later added that if Iran did not agree to the deal, the US would continue bombing and “get the uranium by other means.”
