Phnom Penh: Up to today, the Ministry of Environment has been continuing the campaign to plant and distribute approximately 2,977,359 mixed saplings in the palm grove, totaling more than 1 million saplings, at five regional nurseries in Tbong Khmum, Kampong Speu, Siem Reap, Mondulkiri and Koh Kong provinces and at provincial environmental departments nationwide for free distribution to citizens to plant in homes, schools, monasteries and community forest restoration.

Meanwhile, on April 21, 2026, the Ministry of Environment continued to grow seedlings for distribution to the public to be planted in public places and to restore forests to increase green cover in Cambodia. A total of 311,539 mixed seedlings, including 55,000 palm trees, were planted in the capital and provincial departments, including Kampot, Koh Kong, Kampong Speu, Pursat, Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, Siem Reap, Svay Rieng, and Kampong Speu provincial nurseries.

Please note that under the leadership of Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of Environment, the “Green Sprout” campaign was established with the commitment of the Ministry of Environment to distribute at least 1 million saplings per year since October 2023 with the goal of increasing green cover towards a carbon-neutral Cambodia by 2050.

In 2024, the Ministry of Environment promoted the planting and distribution of 1.3 million saplings to the public. In particular, in 2025, the Ministry of Environment and the provincial and capital environmental departments had already planted and distributed more than 3.4 million saplings. In 2026, the Green Sprout campaign plans to distribute 5 million saplings to citizens to plant in the upcoming rainy season.
