Kampong Cham: Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat, deputy inspector in charge of the anti-drug work plan of the Stung Trang District Police Inspectorate, was seriously injured while leading a force to intervene to suppress a violent incident on the night of April 24, 2026.

According to a report from the Stung Trang District Police Inspectorate, the incident occurred at 23:05 pm in Prek Kak commune, Stung Trang district, Kampong Cham province. Before the incident, the police received information that there was a case of intentional violence (a group of young gangsters fighting each other) at a Khmer boxing event at Boeung Deng.

Immediately, Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat led the force to the scene to disperse the fight and arrest the young gangsters. However, during the operation, a suspect suddenly used a sharp weapon (knife) to stab the deputy inspector, causing him to be hit in the face and right nose in 2 places, seriously injuring him until he fainted on the spot.


After the incident, the suspect was immediately subdued and arrested by the police and sent to the Stung Trang District Police Inspectorate for legal action.
In particular, regarding the condition of Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat, because his injuries were too serious, after first aid at the Stung Trang District Referral Hospital and the Kampong Cham Provincial Referral Hospital, the medical team decided to send him to the emergency room at Calmette Hospital in Phnom Penh.

Currently, the deputy inspector is still unconscious and is scheduled to be sent for further treatment in Vietnam.
