Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is set to be implemented soon, explained that the military conscription law does not mean that all young people aged 18 to 25 must be selected to serve in the military, but rather only according to the needs of the army.

Prime Minister Hun Sen’s statement was made on the occasion of his third chairmanship of the meeting with the informal economy trade unions and the academic staff association at the Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center on April 26, 2026 to celebrate the 140th anniversary of International Workers’ Day, May 1, 2026.

The Prime Minister said, “When people say that 18-25 years old must serve, most people think that starting with that means collecting them all at once. “For our Cambodia, we use the second formula. According to the needs of our army. The army cannot bring 1 million people all at once, without money, and without a place to sleep, and we do not need to bring 1 million people at once. So how much depends on the annual needs of the army.”
