Phnom Penh: Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of the Ministry of Interior, said that in the case of Cambodian citizens renting a car to a foreigner and being arrested by the authorities in connection with the crime of Scam Online, the car must be returned to the original owner.
This was stated by Mr. Rain Rattanak, spokesman for Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, via Facebook on May 5, 2026.
The spokesman said, “Please be informed that in the meeting on May 4, 2026, His Excellency Dr. Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Ministry of Interior, instructed the operation team to suppress all fraud crimes using technology systems in cases where Cambodian citizens rent a car to a foreigner and the foreigner is arrested by the authorities in connection with the crime, including the rented car. “The authorities must prepare a procedure to return the car to the owner in case there is a clear rental document and ownership document in accordance with the law.”
In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that there must be absolutely no pressure to demand money in exchange for completing the procedure to return the car to the citizen who owns the car.
