Phnom Penh: Mr. Heng Sour, Minister of Labor and Vocational Training, received a courtesy call and working discussion with Mr. Omori Junichi, CEO and General Manager of Global Operations of Daikin Industries Ltd. at the Ministry’s Office on the afternoon of May 21, 2026, to exchange views on expanding cooperation in the development of human resources in the future of refrigeration equipment and strengthening public-private partnership investment initiatives.

On that occasion, the Minister highly appreciated the commendable achievements of the cooperation between the two parties in developing a skilled workforce in Cambodia. In particular, the inauguration of the “DAIKIN DOJO TRAINING CENTER” at the Industrial Technical Institute (ITI) last April has made the institute a leading educational institution, and this partnership is contributing significantly to building the capacity of teachers, developing curricula, and providing quality training to students, enabling them to get good jobs and decent salaries upon graduation.

Mr. Heng Sour said Cambodia is investing heavily in TVET programs to equip young people with skills that match industry needs, especially in raising professional standards and developing workforce capabilities in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry. He emphasized that TVET is the foundation of Cambodia’s strategy to transform the workforce through skills enhancement and learning new skills in line with industry needs. Cambodia’s ambition to become a high-income country by 2050 relies on building a modern workforce with strong skills and a fit for the evolving economy, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who sees human resources as a core component of national development.

In response, Mr. Omori Junichi expressed his deep gratitude to the Minister for supporting the establishment of the Daikin Do Center at ITI. He stated that the HVAC industry and training are very important, which is why the company wants to expand its activities in Cambodia as well as other countries in the world. In addition, the company not only sells technical equipment, but also provides after-sales service, which creates a need for technicians with the right knowledge, especially providing after-sales service and spare parts supply, which contributes to the development of this sector in the right direction and provides better comfort to the people.

Mr. Heng Sour welcomed the company’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Cambodia in the field of vocational training and skills development. Through its collaboration with Daikin Industries Ltd, Cambodia is incorporating innovation and the “gold standard” of Japanese quality into human resource development, as the company not only has expertise in air conditioning, but is also a leader in providing environmentally sustainable solutions.

Both parties confirmed their readiness to strengthen and expand a model of mutually beneficial cooperation, responding to the needs of companies and the labor market, which will help strengthen the development of professional skills and long-term human resources in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
