Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training on the morning of May 23, 2026, is deeply shocked by two horrific traffic accidents that occurred simultaneously, resulting in the deaths of 13 workers and employees and the serious and minor injuries of more than 30 others.

Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training spokesman Sun Mesa said the first case occurred in Kampong Tralach district, Kampong Chhnang province, when a heavy cargo truck crashed into a vehicle carrying workers along National Road 5, resulting in the deaths of eight workers and serious injuries to 10 others, while the others sustained minor injuries. The second case occurred in Svay Rieng City, Svay Rieng Province, resulting in the deaths of five workers, serious injuries to five, and minor injuries to 16 others.

Mr. Sun Mesa stated: “The ministry and His Excellency the Minister are deeply shocked and saddened by these two traffic accidents. Immediately after receiving the information, The National Social Security Bureau, the Department of Labor, and competent authorities near the scene have worked hard to rescue and transport the injured to nearby hospitals and are being transferred to the provincial and Kalemetra hospitals.”

Mr. Sun Mesa also strongly appealed to respect traffic laws. Carefully to avoid the terrible traffic accidents that befall our workers.
At the same time, the ministry’s leadership will organize the funeral and guarantee all the expenses of the workers’ funeral.
