Phnom Penh: Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra said that information integrity is the foundation of public trust, and public trust is the foundation of peace and social order.
This is according to a press release on the results of the Greater Mekong Sub-Region Forum for the Campaign to Eliminate Fake News on June 2, 2026 under the theme “Building Regional Trust, Digital Resilience, and Responsible Information Sharing” issued by the Ministry of Information.
The forum clearly stated that fake news is not just a media issue, but a strategic issue that affects public trust, social solidarity, national resilience, digital security, regional trust, peace, social order, and sustainable development.
Participants noted that in the digital age, false and misleading information can spread rapidly across borders, across languages, digital platforms and communities, causing confusion, undermining trust in institutions and undermining cooperation between countries.
The forum highlighted Cambodia’s “Say No to Fake News” campaign, a major national initiative to promote information and media literacy, responsible information sharing and public awareness. The campaign aims to empower citizens, especially youth, students, rural communities, and vulnerable people, to verify sources of information before believing or sharing it.
In his closing remarks, Minister of Information Neth Pheaktra stated, “Integrity of information is the foundation of public trust. Public trust is the foundation of peace and social order. Peace and social order are the foundation of sustainable development for our nation, our region, and our world.”
