Phnom Penh: Australia has provided A$1.5 million in funding to support rehabilitation and mine action in Cambodia’s border-affected communities through the Mine Action for Results project.
On 8 June 2026, Dr. Ly Thuj, Senior Minister and First Deputy Director of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority, presided over the signing of a contribution agreement between Australia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to support rehabilitation and mine action efforts in Cambodia’s border-affected communities.

The signing ceremony took place at the Cambodia Mine Action Authority headquarters, under the participation of Mr. Derek Yip, Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, and Mr. Enrico Gaveglia, UNDP Country Representative to Cambodia.
Under the agreement, Australia has provided a contribution of A$1.5 million through the “Clearance for Results Phase V (CfR-V)” project, a multi-donor project including the Government of Cambodia, Italy, Luxembourg and New Zealand, and implemented jointly by the Cambodia Mine Action Authority and the UNDP. UNDP.
The grant will support mine clearance, explosive ordnance risk education, and livelihood support for displaced people, as well as contribute to socio-economic recovery in four provinces, namely Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Oddar Meanchey, and Preah Vihear, which are the provinces most affected by the Cambodian-Thailand border conflict.
On the occasion, Minister Ly Thuj said that mine action in Cambodia is one of Cambodia’s most important development and humanitarian partners. Since 1992, more than $1 billion has been invested in mine and explosive remnants of war clearance, victim assistance, and community protection, of which about 70 percent has been provided by the international community, while the Royal Government of Cambodia has also continued its strong commitment to sustainable national investment in mine action.

The Minister added that Australia has been a trusted mine action partner of Cambodia since the early 1990s and has supported the CfR project since its first phase in 2006, with a total contribution of A$45.31 million. The contribution to the CfR-V phase demonstrates a shared commitment to supporting affected communities towards a Cambodia free of landmines and explosive remnants of war, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Prime Minister Hun Sen.
He also thanked UNDP for standing with the Mine Action Authority for nearly 20 years through the CfR project, which has contributed to the release of approximately 427 square kilometers of land for the people of Cambodia, equivalent to 13.5 percent of the total clearance results nationwide.
