Through a press release, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense said that on Monday, the 6th July 2026 at 12:15 am, after informing the Thai side and with the participation of relevant local authorities, the Coordination Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia coordinated with the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) led by the Head of the ASEAN Observer Team Mission (HOM AOT) of the Philippines to observe, verify and collect information on the actual situation at border posts 52 to 59 in Kamrieng district, Battambang province.
On that occasion, ASEAN observers inspected the actual situation regarding the unilateral construction of a border fence by the Thai military near border posts 52-54 and observed the destruction of temporary posts caused by this unilateral action. After receiving technical information related to the joint survey work and temporary marking carried out by the joint survey teams of the two countries, the ASEAN observers in Cambodia also visited the location where Thai people had been farming in Cambodia between border posts 52-59. It is important to note that the Cambodian side has protested through diplomatic channels to the Thai side because this work affects existing bilateral procedures under the jurisdiction of the Joint Border Committee (JBC) of both sides. In this regard, the Cambodian side has urged the organization of a meeting of the Joint Border Committee (JBC) as soon as possible to resolve the issue.
