Phnom Penh: On July 13, 2026, the National Standards Council approved 45 Cambodian standards to strengthen the National Quality Infrastructure (NQI), support industrial development, facilitate international trade, and promote quality, product safety, and consumer protection.
The 33rd meeting of the National Standards Council approved 43 new international and regional standards and 2 amendments as Cambodian standards. These standards include 13 European Union (Eurocode) standards, 26 ISO standards, 4 IEC standards, and 2 amendments.
The approved standards cover a wide range of sectors, including construction and engineering, chemical substances and products, control systems, electrical and electronic products, rubber products, vehicles, cosmetics, and wood products. All standards are reviewed and agreed upon by eight technical committees before being submitted to the National Standards Council for approval.
Speaking at the 33rd meeting, Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and Chairman of the National Standards Council, stated that standards have become a key tool in protecting national economic interests in a context where global trade is increasingly interconnected.
He said, “Our goal is to protect Cambodia’s national economic interests. International trade is increasingly dependent on standards. “If we do not participate in the development of those standards, we cannot effectively protect the interests of our businesses and exporters.”
He also mentioned the progress of Cambodia’s participation in international standards organizations such as ISO, IEC and Codex Alimentarius, which will allow Cambodia to contribute more actively to the development of international standards to ensure Cambodia’s best interests in the process of developing those standards.
