Phnom Penh: On July 14, 2026, Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, met with Mr. Ueno Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, in a farewell meeting, as both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continue bilateral cooperation in the fields of clean water, industry, science, technology and innovation.
The Minister said, “The Ministry and the Royal Government have benefited greatly from the attention of His Excellency and from the collaboration with our Japanese partners.”
The Minister thanked the Japanese side for its long-term commitment to cooperate in developing the clean water sector in Cambodia through JICA, Kitakyushu, and other partners by supporting infrastructure development, technical capacity building, and long-term planning for the sector.
The Minister added that Japan has played a key role in the development of Cambodia’s water sector. Cooperation in this sector has not only improved public health and livelihoods, but is also contributing to Cambodia’s economic transformation.
Mr. Ueno highlighted the achievements of Cambodia-Japan cooperation, especially in the water sector, highlighting water projects in Phnom Penh, Svay Rieng Province, and Takhmao City, and thanked the ministry and Cambodian partners for their close collaboration.
The Ambassador said, “I have many memories of our cooperation, especially in the water sector, because this sector has created the wonder of Phnom Penh. The inauguration of the water treatment plants in Svay Rieng province and Takhmao city also showed that there is much work that our two countries can accomplish together.”
The two sides also discussed further strengthening cooperation on intellectual property, industrial development, investment and technology transfer, as well as the ministry’s continued support for Japanese companies and investors in Cambodia.
