Phnom Penh: Ms. Phoeung Sakona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, said that Cambodia will aim to host the meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage in any year.

During a working meeting with Mr. Nayef Al-Fayez, Deputy Director-General of UNESCO, on the afternoon of July 21, 2025, Ms. Phoeung Sakona informed the Deputy Director-General about Cambodia’s intention to host a meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in any year during Cambodia’s membership of the Committee from 2026 to 2030.

In response, the Deputy Director-General pledged to support the proposal to host the meeting and also confirmed UNESCO’s support and, on behalf of His Excellency, his personal commitment to closely monitor the Preah Vihear Temple case, and to actively contribute to the mediation to ease tensions between the two countries through culture.
