Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the theme “Together to Respond to the Drug Problem in a New and Creative Context” on July 21, 2026 in Kandal Province, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the ceremony to promote the spirit of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on this occasion is very important to contribute to achieving the vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia in building Cambodia into a country where drugs are no longer an obstacle and a problem for the national society.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed concern about the changing situation of drug crimes, which are different from the past and are no longer ordinary crimes, but are closely linked to transnational crimes, money laundering, human trafficking, and the use of digital technology in complex and systematic criminal networks. In this regard, criminal groups are constantly changing their methods and tactics in committing criminal acts to escape the law.
Along with the concerns, the Minister of Interior also highlighted that Cambodian authorities have been actively carrying out operations to prevent and suppress the drug problem. In fact, since 2025, in the Phnom Penh and Kampong Chhnang provinces, authorities have seized and confiscated a total of more than 5 tons of drugs, which will be burned in front of the public on this occasion.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that if we look at the current situation, there is almost no family that is not affected or has no members involved in the drug problem. Therefore, in order to effectively prevent and eliminate this problem, there must be a concerted effort from all relevant parties, especially starting from each family, to monitor, educate, and guide their children to stay away from drugs.
