BRATISLAVA: Slovakia’s economy is expected to grow by 0.8 percent in 2026 and 1.8 percent in 2027, according to the latest macroeconomic forecast published by the Slovak Ministry of Finance.

The economy will improve moderately despite ongoing external pressures, including trade tensions, the energy crisis, US tariffs and a decline in competitiveness across the EU, the ministry said.

A recovery in household consumption and exports is expected to support economic growth, while the ongoing expansion of production at Volvo’s Slovakian car plant will provide a key boost.

Inflation is also forecast to will also slow, with the annual rate falling from 3.7 percent this year to 2.9 percent in 2027. The ministry said that the continued implementation of the energy subsidy program for households will also help curb the increase in commodity prices.

Real household income is also expected to improve. The average wage is forecast to increase by 4.5 percent this year, while real wages adjusted for inflation are expected to increase by 1.4 percent next year.
