Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of senate of Cambodia, has sent a message to world leaders, mostly from Europe, inviting them to attend the Francophone countries meeting (OIF) hosted by Cambodia. He urged them not to worry about personal security regarding the Cambodia-Thailand border issue.

Chhea Thirith, spokesperson for the Cambodian president Senate, stated after a meeting between Samdech Techo and Ms. Louise Mushikiwabo, Secretary-General of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), on March 2, 2026, that Samdech Techo, through the Secretary-General, sent a message to leaders worldwide inviting them to participate in the Francophonie meeting that Cambodia will host at the end of 2026. He assured that concerns about personal security related to the Cambodia-Thailand border issue should not affect the meeting.

The spokesperson clarified, “Samdech sent a message to Her Excellency, emphasizing that all Francophonie countries, especially leaders planning to visit Cambodia soon to attend the Francophonie meeting, should not worry, even though Cambodia and Thailand have border issues. This will not negatively impact the organization of this important summit.”

It should be noted that according to a recent statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Cambodia will host the 20th Francophonie Summit in November 2026, while the 2025 meeting will be held in France. This historic event will see participation from heads of state and representatives of member countries of the International Organization of La Francophonie, as well as many partner institutions.

The summit aims to promote dialogue, exchange views, and seek concrete solutions to global challenges related to peace and sustainable development, which are the top priorities of nearly 100 member countries of the Francophonie organization.
