Phnom Penh: Mr. Phan Rum, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, announced that as planned, the “Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge Mekong Kratie” has been opened for permanent public crossing on April 1, 2026.

The Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge Mekong Kratie began construction on January 2, 2023, under the presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister, and Mr. Wang Wentian, former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia.

Roads and bridges are the lifeblood of the national economy and are the second key priority among the five priorities “People, Roads, Water, Electricity, and Technology” of the first phase of the development strategy. The second priority task of the second phase is to promote connectivity and improve the efficiency of the transport sector. It is also an important strategic project for connecting and bringing hope between people living in the eastern region and those living in the western region, connecting isolated areas in the northeastern region to population centers linking Kratie province to Kampong Thom province, which intersects with major national roads of other provinces.

The Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge Mekong Kratie is a strategic bridge connecting important travel routes from Chitr Borei district in the east to Prek Prasop district in the west. This bridge helps enhance the efficiency of the transport sector, especially the transportation of agricultural and industrial products, including improving tourism connectivity from Kampong Thom province to the northeastern region, making it even easier.
