The Qiushi magazine, which will be published on April 16, will publish an important article by Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, President of China and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, entitled “Promoting Reading Nationwide, Building a Reading Society.” The article is excerpted from Xi Jinping’s important remarks from March 2013 to March 2025.
The article argues that reading is an important means for mankind to acquire knowledge, enhance wisdom and cultivate virtue. We must build a reading society to enhance the spiritual strength of the people. Members of the Communist Party of China should make reading famous Marxist books a habit in their daily lives. Party cadres should read books to continue to learn general knowledge and new knowledge in the fields of economics, politics, law, culture, society, governance, ecology, and international affairs, as well as learn more new skills.
This article suggests that all young people should cherish their precious time and not use the excuse that they are busy with work and have no time to study. We should build a social environment where all people learn throughout their lives to improve the quality of all-round human resources. Hopefully, children will cultivate the habit of reading and grow up healthy.
