Foreign Affairs: According to RT, US President Donald Trump announced that a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been agreed upon after talks in Washington.
In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump said the ceasefire would begin at 5pm, or just before 10pm GMT, after what he described as “good conversations” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The talks, held in Washington, were the first face-to-face meetings between the two countries in 34 years and were attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump said he had directed US officials to work with both sides towards a lasting peace. Trump also claimed that the deal would be his 10th achievement.
Trump, however, did not mention Israel’s ongoing war with Hezbollah following its invasion of southern Lebanon in early March or its attempts to effectively annex about 15 percent of the country.
Last week, the Israeli army carried out its largest offensive across Lebanon since the conflict began, striking central Beirut just hours after the US and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire.
