Chonburi Province: According to a report from The Thaiger, a police officer has been arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a marijuana shop owner in a shooting incident on Songkran Day on Pattaya Walking Street, Thailand, early this morning, April 19.
The shooting was reported at 1:06 a.m. behind a marijuana shop on a walking street in South Pattaya, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. Police and rescue workers arrived to find the marijuana shop owner, Phattharathon, 41, with two gunshot wounds to his body.
Rescuers provided first aid and performed CPR before taking him to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Witnesses said the officer appeared to be heavily intoxicated and brandished a gun to threaten people in the area before firing into the entertainment venue. No one was initially injured. The victim tried to calm the situation and asked the officer to drop his weapon before being shot twice, seriously injuring him.
Siam Chon News reported that investigators were gathering evidence and would pursue legal action.
Elsewhere, a 16-year-old student was shot dead during the final day of Songkran celebrations after stopping his motorbike to urinate on Khao Tang Road in Phichit province.
Investigators from Mueang Phichit Police Station and emergency services rushed to the scene and found the teenager with gunshot wounds to his right rib and arm. Despite being rushed to hospital, he died from his injuries.
