Battambang: On April 19, 2026, experts from the Battambang Provincial Department of Environment collaborated with local authorities to investigate, monitor, and take measures to prevent water pollution in Prek Treng in Svay Sar village, Treng commune, Ratanak Mondul district, Battambang province, after journalists reported that there were cases of poisoned and dead fish at the above location.

A team of experts visited the site to inspect the sewage system, looking for sources of liquid waste discharges, suspicious areas that could affect water quality and cause dead fish in the Treng River.

On April 20 In 2026, the team continued to investigate the above case and found several dead fish specimens. According to the on-site inspection, there were dead fish and foul-smelling water in Prek Treng, which is located 600 meters downstream of two mango processing factories.

At the same time, the team conducted an on-site inspection and did not see any suspected cases of leakage or discharge of liquid waste into the into O Treng yet because the two companies have prepared water treatment tanks according to technical specifications and in the factory area, the water released is clear and has no bad smell.

Meanwhile, the team took water samples from 5 locations upstream and downstream of the factory and the water pond. of the two mango processing companies, Yu Yu Pin Company and Bai Xinsheng Company, which are located near the suspected site, to be sent to the Ministry of Environment’s laboratory.
At the same time, experts have issued measures asking authorities to prohibit citizens from using Prek Treng water for a while and not to eat dead fish. The team further advised the owners of the two factories above not to release waste that pollutes public water and to regularly implement environmental technical standards.
