Phnom Penh: The Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the first meeting of the 2+2 strategic dialogue between the foreign ministers and defense ministers of Cambodia and China will be held on April 22, 2026.

According to the press release, At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cambodia, and Deputy Prime Minister Tea Seiha, Minister of National Defense of Cambodia, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Tong Chun of the People’s Republic of China will co-chair the first meeting of the “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia and the People’s Republic of China on April 22, 2026 in Phnom Penh.

The source said that Cambodia and China agreed to establish this dialogue during the state visit to Cambodia of Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, in April 2025, with the aim of promoting high-level strategic relations, deepening political and security trust, and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. This new mechanism is an important platform for exchanging views on regional and international issues for mutual benefit.
During their stay in Phnom Penh, the two senior officials will also pay separate courtesy calls on Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Senate, and Samdech Thimphu Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia.

Following the 2+2 dialogue, Wang Yi will also pay an official visit to Cambodia on April 23, 2026. He will have in-depth discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn on promoting the implementation of existing cooperation frameworks and contributing to peace, security, stability and development in and outside the region.
