Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has conveyed to his Chinese friends Cambodia’s position on resolving the border issue peacefully, based on international law and in accordance with existing bilateral conventions, treaties and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
President Hun Sen’s statement was made on the occasion of welcoming Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Chinese Defense Minister DONG Jun to pay a courtesy call and discuss work on April 22, 2026, on the occasion of the two ministers’ invitation to co-chair the first meeting of the “2+2” strategic dialogue mechanism between the Foreign Ministers and Defense Ministers of Cambodia and China from April 22 to 23, 2026 in Phnom Penh.

The President and Mr. Wang Yi, together with Admiral Tong Jun, discussed promoting cooperation in key areas including: politics, economy, trade and investment, national defense and security, clean energy, transportation infrastructure construction, and agriculture, etc.
President Wang Yi and Admiral Tong Chun also continued to exchange views on promoting closer cooperation between the two countries in regional and international frameworks.
The President also briefed Wang Yi, Admiral Tong Chun, and the delegation on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, and reaffirmed Cambodia’s position on resolving the border issue peacefully based on international law and in accordance with existing bilateral conventions, treaties, and agreements between Cambodia and Thailand.
