Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen of Cambodia said that Cambodia is the first country in the Greater Mekong Subregion to achieve the national strategic plan to eliminate malaria according to plan.

In a message on the occasion of the National Malaria Day under the theme “Commitment to End Malaria: Now We Can and We Must Do It” on April 25, 2026, Prime Minister Hun Sen proudly emphasized that “the Kingdom of Cambodia is the first country in the Greater Mekong Subregion to achieve the national strategic plan to eliminate malaria according to plan.”

The Prime Minister continued that this remarkable achievement It is truly a good example of the first steps of the national strategic plan, a clear and correct compass that must continue the long journey with stability, efficiency, effectiveness, equity and modernity in the context of digital technology, under a high sense of responsibility in the will to jointly prevent, contain and ensure that malaria will not reoccur in Cambodia from 2026-2035, as well as prevent and contain the spread of malaria imported from other countries that still have malaria.

The Prime Minister added that “we are committed to preserving the achievement of Cambodia being free of malaria, which is a historic success, to be permanent.”
