Phnom Penh: As of the evening of April 26, 2026, Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat, Deputy Inspector of the Stung Trang District Police Inspectorate, continues to be under emergency care by a team of specialized doctors at the Hospital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat was seriously injured and lying in a pool of blood after being stabbed in the face by a gang member with an iron bar in two places while quelling a gang fight at a local martial arts event on the night of April 24, 2026.
On the evening of April 26, via Facebook, Mr. Rain Ratanak, spokesman for Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha, Minister of the Ministry of Interior, updated the situation of Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat, who is receiving constant attention from the Ministry of Interior, especially from the Deputy Prime Minister through the working group.

The spokesperson said, “As of the evening of April 26, the Lieutenant Colonel is still under the emergency care of a team of specialized doctors at the Hospital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.”

The spokesperson added that all emergency needs and continued treatment of the Lieutenant Colonel, as well as solving the challenges facing his family, have been covered by the Deputy Prime Minister and on behalf of the Ministry of Interior, including the General, the Commissioner General, the Governor and the Major General, the Commissioner of Kampong Cham Provincial Police.
The spokesperson continued that the responsibility, sentiments and caring gestures of the leadership regarding the situation of Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat clearly reflected the grief And pay our deepest respect to the heroism of Lieutenant Colonel Mab Sophat, who made sacrifices on behalf of the National Police in his duties to contribute to the leadership and competent officials to achieve the cause of ensuring security, public order, and social safety for the people.
