Preah Vihear: On the afternoon of May 20, 2026, the Preah Vihear provincial administration organized a ceremony to pay tribute to the deceased and commemorate the deceased on the occasion of the “National Day of Remembrance May 20” in a very fitting and sad manner at the premises of Crime Zone 103 in Rovieng district, Preah Vihear province.

The ceremony was held under the high chairmanship of Mr. Prak Sovann, Chairman of the Provincial Council, and Mr. Kim Rithy, Governor of the Preah Vihear Provincial Government, with the participation of many civil servants, armed forces, and citizens.

This historic ceremony was held to jointly pay tribute and express deep remembrance to the victims who lost their lives and suffered the most painful torture during the Democratic Kampuchea (Khmer Rouge) regime from April 17, 1975 to January 6, 1979.

On that auspicious occasion, the presiding officers and the entire ceremony gathered to pay their respects and offer offerings and offerings according to Buddhist tradition to dedicate merit to the souls of the ancestors, soldiers, and more than 3 million innocent citizens who died unjustly during the brutal black-shirt regime.

The National Day of Remembrance on May 20 is not only a reminder of the great and irreparable loss of the nation, but also a warning and an important historical lesson for all humanity, especially the younger generation, to clearly understand the true value of seeking peace.
At the same time, the leaders of Preah Vihear province also called on all citizens and the international community to jointly protect the peace that currently exists so that it will last forever to ensure that such dark historical chapters and atrocities will never return to haunt the land of Suvarnabhumi or any place in the world again.
