Kampong Thom: On the morning of May 20, 2026, Major General Som Sun, Commander of the Deputy Military Operations Area and Permanent Vice Chairman of the Committee for the Protection, Prevention and Suppression of Natural Resources Crimes in Kampong Thom Province, led a joint force to inspect the management and protection of the Boeung Pe Wildlife Sanctuary in the Choam Krabey area in the geographical area of ​​Sengkang commune, Prasat Ballang district, Kampong Thom province.
Mr. E Wichaol, a park ranger at the Kampong Thom Provincial Department of Environment and head of the Choam Krabey Regional Command, reported that the Boeung Pe Wildlife Sanctuary on the east side of Stung Stung in Sakram commune, which is managed by the Choam Krabey Regional Command, has an area of ​​over 20,000 hectares. Recently, before the traditional Khmer New Year, criminals illegally cut down more than 4 hectares of trees in the Trapaing Tays and Kanseng Thom areas. Currently, this area is being protected and patrolled by the combined forces to prevent burning or planting. And the environmental agency has already filed a case against the suspect in this deforestation case and sent it to court.
Major General Som Sun expressed his appreciation for the joint forces stationed at the Choam Krabey Regional Command in managing and protecting forests in the Boeung Per Wildlife Sanctuary in the past and present. And with that, attention has also been paid to managing and protecting approximately 4 hectares of forest land that was illegally cut down by criminals before the New Year holiday. And has already filed a case to be sent to the court to continue investigating the perpetrators and those involved and bring them to justice in the future.
At the same time, General Som Sun also instructed our joint forces that we must patrol and protect the forest land well in order to preserve our forests.
After the talks and exchanges were concluded, Major General Som Sun also presented some food, groceries, beverages, and fuel, which were gifts from His Excellency Vongsy Vissoth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for the Council of Ministers, and Head of the Royal Government’s Working Group in Kampong Thom Province, to the joint forces to ensure daily livelihoods. And also a means of transportation to fulfill this important task of serving the national society.
