Phnom Penh: Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Lieutenant General Maly Socheata denied that Cambodia did not detonate five weapons in the Phnom Bak area in Samrong city, Oddar Meanchey province.

The spokesperson’s statement came after the Thai Army Spokesperson’s Group on the morning of May 22, 2026 published that “there were five explosions in the Phnom Bak area, located in the Samrong city, Oddar Meanchey province, and accused Cambodian forces of being the ones who caused the above.”

Regarding this unfounded accusation, the spokesperson reiterated that this is false and slanderous information intended to cause confusion, mislead public opinion, and cause tension along the border. The Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia cannot accept the repeated dissemination of false information by the Thai military and the Thai media, which harms the honor of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces as well as undermines mutual trust.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense calls on the Thai side to immediately stop publishing such false information and return to respecting and implementing in a strict, complete and honest manner the contents of all previously agreed agreements, especially the compliance with point 8 of the joint statement dated December 27, 2025 on combating fake news, in order to build mutual trust and an environment conducive to the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law and existing treaties and agreements between the two countries.

Taking this opportunity, the Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia reaffirm their firm, honest and honest commitment to respect and fully and firmly implement the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thai General Boundary Committee (GBC) of 27 December 2025, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand of 26 October 2025, and other relevant agreements, in order to move towards a speedy recovery and a return to normalcy, peace and lasting stability.
