Health Minister: Royal Government committed to continuing the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria

Phnom Penh: Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, said that the Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to continuing to invest in programs to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria to improve the well-being of its citizens.

Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Ms. Sylwia Murray, Fund Portfolio Manager, at the Global Fund headquarters in Geneva.
The meeting aimed to review the progress of the program to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Cambodia, focusing on discussing financing challenges and finding sustainable strategies to ensure that Cambodia can continue to maintain its achievements and move towards complete elimination of these three diseases.

The Minister thanked The Global Fund for supporting Cambodia for more than two decades. The Minister said that this support has made a significant contribution to reducing the incidence and mortality rates of AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, as well as strengthening local health systems.

Professor Chheang Ra added that the Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to continuing to invest in programs to combat these three diseases. In line with The Global Fund’s strategy, continued active support across all dimensions of The Global Fund and multilateral development partners will ensure the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of the health system.

In response, Ms. Sylwia Murray praised Cambodia’s commitment and achievements. Which is considered a model country in controlling AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in the Asia-Pacific region and globally. She said that the Global Fund is facing global financing challenges, but confirmed that the Global Fund will continue to support Cambodia through technical assistance to strengthen surveillance and response systems, coordination with new development partners, and support to strengthen community health systems.
