Phnom Penh: Lieutenant General Chuon Narin, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Phnom Penh Police, has asked journalists to support the elimination of postings of obscene, insulting and defamatory images on social media.

Lieutenant General Chuon’s proposal Narin, on the occasion of the invitation to participate in a discussion between the National Police and female journalists under the theme “Enhancing the safety of female journalists to strengthen freedom of expression in Cambodia” held at the Cambodiana Hotel under the sponsorship of UNESCO on June 4, 2026.

In addition, Mr. Simha encouraged journalists to report on the real situation in Cambodia and bring information from citizens to relevant competent authorities for timely and effective resolution.

Mr. Simha emphasized that in the context of a democratic society, the role of journalists cannot be overlooked. All journalists, especially female journalists, are important pillars of a democratic society who always stand on the front lines, fulfilling their duties without fear or fatigue in clarifying the truth and providing unbiased information to the citizens, while respecting the rule of law and the rights and freedoms of others. Professional journalists who respect their profession are like mirrors for effectively reflecting social issues.

At the same time, Mr. Simha asked all journalists to continue to participate in maintaining peace, developing the country, and strengthening democracy based on consistent implementation of the law, ethics, and professionalism, and to eliminate opportunists who hide under the banner of journalism. In addition, the public must participate in educating the public about measures to prevent traffic accidents, the dangers of drug use, human trafficking, policies for safe villages, communes, and especially the problem of gangs, the problem of fraud through technology, and maintaining safety and social order.

Mr. Samsal also urged to continue to fight fake news that is socially harmful and can cause political instability, chaos, and loss of social order in the country. He also urged to adhere to the professional code of ethics, broadcast true, balanced, and comprehensive news, and avoid disseminating information that harms national interests and loses public trust. He also supported the elimination of posting obscene images, insults, and defamation on social media that affect morals in the national society.
