During the implementation ceremony of the “Say No to Fake News” campaign, step 2, at Bunrany High School Hun Sen Charyavong, Kep City, on July 10, 2026, attended by Ms. Kim Channy, Deputy Governor of Kep Province, representatives of the Provincial Department of Education, Youth and Sports, approximately 1,000 teachers and students, and Mr. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information, emphasized that the use of social media without consideration can cause chaos and seriously affect social security.
He stated that the Ministry of Information found approximately 4,000 cases of fake news in 2025. In particular, in the first half of 2026, there were more than 2,000 cases, representing an increase of nearly 30% compared to the same period last year.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, he called on citizens, especially social media users, to be highly responsible in all expressions and re-distributions by clearly verifying the source of information first, in order to jointly build a safe and harmonious social environment.
The spokesman stated that “we must be careful. We are enjoying the use of our digital means, which have information at the palm of your hand. Among them, fake information is also at the palm of your hand. So, we must let fake news end in our own hands, and not let it spread further.”
The “Say No to Fake News” campaign, Phase 2, under the theme “Strengthening Information Literacy and Media for Information Security” was officially launched on May 18, 2026 at Samdech Hun Sen Bun Rany Wat Phnom High School, under the chairmanship of Mr. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information. The campaign aims to raise public awareness about the dangers of fake news and how to protect oneself from deception in the digital age, as well as strengthen citizens’ ability to receive and use information responsibly. On the other hand, this work reflects the unwavering commitment of the Royal Government and the Ministry of Information to strengthen information security and build digital resilience for all citizens, especially to protect Cambodian youth from the scourge of fake news.
Please note that the second phase of the campaign has already reached the implementation stage in high schools and secondary schools in 10 target capitals and provinces, including: Phnom Penh and Preah Vihear, Takeo, Kampong Speu, Siem Reap, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Pursat, Kampot and Kep provinces.
