Phnom Penh: On July 16, 2026, Mr. Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, met with Ms. Vivian Loss Sanmartin, Ambassador of Brazil to Cambodia, to discuss cooperation on industrial development, agro-industry, innovation and national quality infrastructure.
The meeting took place at a time when Cambodia and Brazil have just opened their respective representative offices in each other’s countries, creating new opportunities for strengthening government-to-government cooperation, facilitating trade and investment, and strengthening people-to-people ties.
Mr. Hem Vandy briefed on Cambodia’s efforts to promote industrialization and the need to go deeper into the value chain by strengthening local production capacity and processing of agricultural products.
The Minister said, “Cambodia is accelerating industrialization as we prepare to graduate from Least Developed Country status by the end of 2029. We welcome closer cooperation with Brazil on agro-processing, machinery, technology transfer, research and innovation to strengthen the competitiveness of Cambodia’s industry and MSMEs.”
The Minister also asked his Brazilian counterpart to strengthen cooperation between institutions of the two countries through concrete partnerships, including with research institutes, laboratories, material science centers and relevant technical units, and to encourage Brazilian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Cambodia.
Ambassador Vivian Loss Sanmartin said that Brazil sees great untapped potential in expanding cooperation with Cambodia, especially in food processing, tropical agriculture, digital government, renewable energy and technical cooperation.
Ms. Sanmartin said that “Brazil has the right facilities, expertise and technology to support Cambodia’s efforts to add value to agricultural products. We want to develop practical cooperation, not just discussions, to create real results for both countries.”
