Takeo Province: Journalists from national news organizations, union representatives, and OXFAM representatives visited the Takeo Regional Polytechnic Institute on Friday, July 24, 2026, to learn firsthand about the measures and programs that the Royal Government of Cambodia has put in place through the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to help support repatriated workers, especially former Cambodian workers who returned from Thailand, to continue their careers and live in the country with decent jobs and stable income.
The visit was made to demonstrate the reality and attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia in providing support services to repatriated workers, including Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), additional training, job counseling, connections to local job opportunities, and support for them to start their own businesses or careers.
On that occasion, participants observed the process of practical competency assessment, skills training, and met with former workers, sharing their experiences of receiving support from the ministry to find new jobs or increase income by using their skills.
Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training, said: “Former Cambodian workers are not starting from scratch. They have brought valuable experience and skills back to Cambodia. The government’s task is to provide recognition for those skills, increase their capabilities, and connect them to jobs that can help them have a better life.”
He added that the participation of journalists, union representatives, and OXFAM representatives in this visit is an important opportunity for all partners to see firsthand the results of the government’s policies and programs in supporting former Cambodian workers and disseminating accurate information to the public.
The visit also demonstrated strong collaboration between the Royal Government, trade unions, OXFAM and relevant partners in promoting skills development, creating decent jobs and strengthening social protection systems, in line with the Royal Government’s goals of developing human resources and improving the livelihoods of citizens.
It is also worth noting that the Takeo Regional Polytechnic Institute has organized 14 previous skills recognition tests for former Cambodian workers in 8 skills such as bricklaying, tiling, formwork installation, plumbing installation, scaffolding, Installation of steel wire, electrical welding and installation of electrical networks in buildings, of which 845 candidates took the test, 777 candidates received professional qualification certificates and 68 candidates received credit certificates.
