Phnom Penh: Dr. Eang Sophallet, Minister of the Ministry of Environment, has urged and called for solidarity and joint efforts to mobilize resources to help improve the livelihoods of communities in protected areas, where cooperation must be carried out at both the national and international levels, considering local communities as homes and the nation, which contribute to better protecting and conserving natural resources and ensuring sustainable development.
The Minister’s statement was made on the occasion of chairing the opening ceremony of the forum on “Financing for Ecosystems and Nature-Friendly Agriculture” held on August 10-11, 2026 in Phnom Penh.
Dr. Eang Sophallet He added that the Ministry of Environment has currently put forward major priority strategies in line with the Royal Government’s strategy, by putting forward the Environmental Sector Cycle Strategy 2023-2028, which focuses on the major core strategies of “cleanliness, greenness and sustainability”, and has been implementing it effectively, in which cleanliness refers to the quality of water, soil and air, which initially focuses on cleaning and managing garbage, solid waste, liquid waste and regular quality control.
Greening refers to the management and conservation of natural resources and the promotion of green and sustainable development, which refers to strategies to ensure that all relevant sectors and sub-national levels understand and participate in promoting sustainable development.
He said that the current forum is important for all relevant parties to participate in promoting financing sources and promoting the development of agriculture that is conducive to nature, as well as strengthening the livelihoods of local communities and preserving the regional ecosystem.
Please note that the Ministry of Environment has collaborated with WWF-Cambodia to organize a two-day workshop from August 10-11, 2026 on “Financing for Ecosystems and Nature-Friendly Agriculture” to support practitioners, policymakers, and financial institutions in mobilizing and coordinating sources of financing to support nature-friendly agriculture and food systems at the landscape level.
Janes Imanuel Ginting, Director of WWF-Cambodia, said that this forum is an important step, with the support of the Royal Government of Cambodia, especially the Ministry of Environment, towards aligning financing, policies, and partnerships to achieve long-term results for conservation and development.
