Phnom Penh: On the afternoon of September 24, 2026, Dr. Kao Thach, the Royal Government Delegate in Charge of the Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (ARDB), and his colleagues met with Dr. Shantha Jayarathna, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security & Co-operative Development and President of the Sri Lanka Consumer Cooperative Societies Federation Ltd. They also connected with potential business partners in Sri Lanka to explore opportunities to strengthen trade cooperation and agricultural market connectivity between Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

During the meeting, the parties concerned discussed the potential for Cambodian agricultural products to be traded in the Sri Lankan market. Including fragrant rice, cashew nuts, cassava, corn and chillies, etc., as well as exchanging information on market needs, standards, quality, processing, packaging and supply chain management to suit consumer needs in Sri Lanka.

In particular, traders are considered as potential business partners for further discussions and studying the possibility of importing agricultural products from Cambodia, with an initial focus on fragrant rice, yams, mangoes, corn and other agricultural products that have potential and can meet Sri Lankan market conditions.

Dr. Shantha Jayarathna shared her experiences with the Agricultural Cooperatives (ACs) business model, agricultural product processing and drying techniques, and the possibility of further market research for Cambodian fragrant rice to cater to specific target groups in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Kao Thach highlighted that establishing effective business relationships between producers, processors, exporters, and buyers is a key factor in expanding new markets for Cambodian agricultural products. ARDB is ready to support value chain financing to promote the connection from production-collection-processing-marketing-export and increase added value to Cambodian agricultural products.

The meeting paved the way for continued coordination between relevant parties of the two countries in organizing Trade Matching and Business-to-Business (B2B) to connect Cambodian exporters with buyers and importers in Sri Lanka and lead to trial orders and the establishment of long-term trade relationships to leverage potential between the two countries.
