Phnom Penh: Cambodia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Prak Sokhonn, has said that recent tensions and conflicts have seriously damaged the trust between Cambodia and Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn made the remarks at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly under the theme “Rebuilding Trust, Managing the Environment: A United Nations that Delivers Results for All” in New York on September 26, 2026.

In this spirit, Cambodia sincerely thanks the international community for its continued attention, contribution, and support to efforts to achieve a peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict.

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that “the recent tensions and conflicts have seriously damaged the trust between Cambodia and Thailand. In addition to straining relations, the conflict has left deep and lasting scars, including damage to cultural heritage and the continued threat of unexploded ordnance.”

However, geography has bound our countries together. As permanent neighbors, the two countries must always live side by side, and the peace, stability and prosperity of our peoples are closely linked. Therefore, rebuilding trust is not just something we want, but it is essential for the future of bilateral relations and for our shared concern for lasting peace and good neighborly relations.
