Phnom Penh: The Military Attachés in Cambodia (MACPP) conducted an observation mission at the O Smach Pass in Oddar Meanchey Province on April 29, 2026 after the ceasefire came into effect. However, during the inspection, there were five incidents of gunfire caused by the Thai side.

According to a press release by Ms. Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense, prior to the visit of the Foreign Military Attaché Group (MACPP), the Secretariat of the Military Border Committee (RBC) of the 4th Military Region, Cambodia, has issued an official notification to the Secretariat of the Military Border Committee (RBC) of the 2nd Military Region, Thailand.

The spokesperson said that the activities of the MACPP member countries in Cambodia have clearly demonstrated the high attention paid to security and peace issues, not only between the two countries, but also for the region and the world as a whole.

She stated that “but it is most regrettable During the observation and inspection at the actual location, there were also five cases of gunfire caused by Thai military forces between 10:35 am and 11:09 am, firing a total of 9 M79 and M16 rifles.”

She added that Cambodian forces have been continuing to monitor closely and with high vigilance. It is also worth noting that this incident is contrary to the spirit of the ceasefire and agreements that both sides have agreed to reduce tensions and promote peace, security and tranquility along the border.
