Unions say Cambodia has better working conditions, safety, higher wages, and abundant social protection.

Phnom Penh: Unions in Cambodia have expressed a positive assessment of the improvement in working conditions, claiming that the working environment is getting better, safer and provides many benefits for workers.

Mr. Sam Soeun The President of the National Union of Labor of Cambodia sees that currently, the wages of workers and employees are continuously increasing from year to year, despite the global crisis. At the same time, social protection provision has also been strengthened and expanded to cover a wider range of areas, which is an important contributing factor in improving the living standards and well-being of workers.

He said: “I see that working conditions in Cambodia are currently improving continuously, with a good and safe working environment. Higher wages and more social protection, which helps improve the livelihood and well-being of workers.

Mr. Kong Athit, President of the Cambodian Confederation of Labor, acknowledged that Cambodia is currently experiencing improved working conditions, job security, and high and affordable wages that are increasing every year. While social protection is also good, it needs to be continued to ensure sustainability. According to Mr. Kong Athit, to ensure the sustainability of these improvements, it is necessary to strengthen the resilience system.

He said: “Strengthening the resilience system is important to ensure that we continue to improve and be sustainable.”

However, the above-mentioned union also stated that while ensuring better working conditions, safety, higher wages and abundant social protection, it is also necessary to continue to strengthen the implementation of laws and supervision of working conditions to ensure that these improvements are sustainable and can respond to the real needs of workers.
