Siem Reap: Mr. Chea Sokny, Deputy Secretary General of the Tonle Sap Authority, visited the proposed site to dig a canal, which is a traffic route for boats to take tourists to and from Tonle Sap Lake, located in Chong Khnias Sangkat, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province on May 12, 2026.

The inspection was conducted after receiving permission from Mr. Tho Jetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology and Chairman of the Tonle Sap Authority, Mr. Chea Sokny, Deputy Secretary General, representing Mr. Sar Kimsan, Secretary General of the Tonle Sap Authority, together with Mr. Ly Sary, Deputy Governor, representing the Governor of Siem Reap Province, in cooperation with the Angkor Foundation, with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the provincial administration, relevant departments and institutions, forces and the Chong Khnias Tourist Boat Association, Siem Reap Province, to participate in the inspection of the site, requesting the excavation of the dam, which is the passageway for ferry traffic to and from Tonle Sap Lake, located in Chong Khnias Sangkat, Siem Reap Province, Siem Reap Province, with a total length of 1,283 meters, a width of 15 meters and a depth of 2.5 meters.

To contribute to the preservation and protection of flooded forests and flooded forests in ensuring flood flow as well as waterway flow for navigation and for citizens to fish and use daily, the working group decided to have the Angkor Foundation prepare a detailed plan with clear technical specifications with the Siem Reap Administration, the Provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, and then submit a proposal to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and the Tonle Sap Authority.

Please be informed that through Letter No. 396 SJN dated July 29, 2021, the Office of the Council of Ministers has withdrawn the investment location of the Chong Kneas area to the Siem Reap Province Administration and the Angkor Foundation for temporary management.
