AOT team verifies and reports on border situation in Boeung Trakuan area

Phnom Penh: The ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) led by the Head of Mission of the ASEAN Observer Team (HOM AOT) Philippines on the morning of May 26, 2026, observed, verified and reported on the border situation in the Boeung Trakuan area in Kok Romiet commune, Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province.

According to a press release by the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, Ms. Maly Socheata, the AOT team observed, verified and reported on the border situation in the Boeung Trakuan area in Kok Romiet commune, Thma Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province, a location that was attacked, barbed wire and illegally occupied container ships by the Thai military, causing many families to not be able to return to their homes. It also reviewed the respect and implementation of all measures in the joint declaration after the ceasefire came into effect.

The ASEAN Observer Group’s observation of the above-mentioned location, which is Cambodia’s sovereign territory and is illegally occupied by the Thai military, highlights the absolute necessity for the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Border Commission (JBC) to commence the demarcation work as soon as possible, in accordance with the existing agreement as stated in point three of the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, to allow the innocent Cambodian civilians to return to their homes without hindrance and in safety and dignity.

The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia continue to affirm their firm, sincere, and honest commitment to fully and steadfastly respect and implement the Joint Declaration of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thai General Boundary Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on December 26, 2025, and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand on December 27, 2025. October 2025 and other related agreements to move towards a speedy recovery and a return to lasting normality, peace and stability.
