Phnom Penh: Mr. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, highlighted that the cross-border QR payment system between Cambodia and India really provides convenience and additional attraction for more and more tourists and Indians to visit Cambodia.

Mr. Huot Hak On June 2, 2026, he was invited to deliver a congratulatory speech on the occasion of the official launch of the UPI/QR cross-border payment system between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of India, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of India in Cambodia.

On this occasion, Minister Huot Hak praised and highly valued the Embassy of India The National Bank of Cambodia and relevant institutions of both countries have worked closely to achieve this important achievement. The Minister also highlighted that the connection of this cross-border digital payment system is not only a technological advancement, but also a bridge connecting people, businesses and tourists between the two countries to make financial transactions easier, safer and more efficient.

At the same time, the Minister also praised the initiative, which is in line with the vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia, under the wise leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, to promote digital transformation and develop the tourism sector into a modern, resilient and competitive sector, a sector considered “green gold” by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Acting Head of State and President of the Senate.

The Minister also supported the introduction of a cross-border UPI/QR payment system between the two countries, which will facilitate travel, support tourism businesses, and promote the building of a connected and inclusive digital economy, further strengthening and deepening the friendship between the two countries and their peoples. In addition, the cross-border UPI/QR payment system will also help enhance the seamless travel experience of tourists and Indians and create new opportunities for expanding tourism cooperation between Cambodia and India by increasing tourist numbers, strengthening flight connectivity, promoting religious and wellness tourism, and strengthening cooperation between the tourism sectors of the two countries.
It is worth noting that in the first quarter of 2026, Cambodia welcomed approximately 22,000 Indian tourists and is expected to continue to increase this number through improved connectivity, travel facilitation, and implementation of new initiatives that enhance the convenience and experience of tourists, especially the upcoming international yoga event in Cambodia.
