Phnom Penh: Government Spokesperson Pen Bona said that the Royal Government of Cambodia has continued to move forward under an active diplomatic policy to protect national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the people, which are the highest priorities of the Royal Government.

In the daily summary On June 3, 2026, Mr. Pen Bona said that His Majesty the King announced on June 2, 2026 that Cambodia had sent an official letter to the Thai side and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to initiate the “forced mediation mechanism” under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to protect Cambodia’s national sovereignty and maritime rights in accordance with international law.
He said that Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, also presented to the heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations in Phnom Penh on the latest developments in the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, focusing on the initiation of the forced mediation mechanism under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in Cambodia. Meanwhile, the ASEAN observer team led by the Philippines also went to An Ses Pass, Choam Ksan District, Preah Vihear Province to observe, verify and report on the site where the Thai military has attacked, laid barbed wire and deployed containers for illegal occupation, which has prevented many people from returning to their homes.

Mr. Pen Bona emphasized that “all this demonstrates the activeness of the diplomatic policy of the Royal Government and the Cambodian leadership in protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity, both on land and at sea, without neglecting or remaining silent in the face of any violation of sovereignty and its people.”
