Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Hun Sen said that the “vocational pathway” mechanism will allow students to have a wider choice in acquiring real skills in line with regional potential.
On the occasion of presiding over the 9th National Technical and Vocational Education and Training Day 2026 under the theme “TVET provides skills, jobs and income” on the morning of June 15, 2026, the Prime Minister said that the “vocational pathway” mechanism will respond to the needs of skilled labor in the industrial and manufacturing sectors, especially in special economic zones and industrial parks, which are the engines driving national economic growth in target provinces.
The Prime Minister also praised the Ministry of Labor for its good performance in providing vocational training to citizens, while since its implementation in 2024 until April 2026, nearly 280,000 students have received training. Of these, nearly 230,000 people are trained at vocational training institutions under the ministry and over 40,000 under the Skills Development Fund (SDF).
The Prime Minister said that the “vocational pathway” was implemented by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labor from 2025-2026 in 49 fields of study, which is a joint achievement of the new revolution in the education system with the aim of closely linking general knowledge education with technical and vocational training education.
The Prime Minister stated that “vocational pathways provide additional options for high school students who are located near special economic zones or industrial parks and intend to enter the job market quickly. They can choose vocational pathways at universities or according to their aptitude and skills.”
The Prime Minister added that for the 2027 target, the two ministries are also looking at and evaluating five more schools located near special economic zones in four provinces: Kandal, Svay Rieng, Pursat, and Kampong Speu.
