Phnom Penh: Samdech Techo Hun Sen, the acting head of state of Cambodia, said that Colombia contributed to finding peace for Cambodia during the UNTAC era.

Such remarks by Samdech Techo Hun Sen Sen on the occasion of allowing Ms. Alicia Alejandra Alfaro Castillo, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Colombia to Cambodia, to pay a courtesy call and present her credentials on the morning of June 15, 2026.
Mr. Chea Thirith, the spokesperson for the Senate, said after the meeting that she stated that the two countries have additional potential to expand together, both in the international political framework and in the bilateral framework between the two countries, and Colombia and Cambodia also plan to have more political dialogues together. At the same time, the two countries will further promote trade, economy, and investment.

According to Mr. Chea Thirith, Samdech Techo expressed satisfaction with the remarks of the Ambassador. The King stated that Cambodia and Colombia should seek more opportunities, especially in areas where cooperation has not been expanded, namely the economy, trade and investment, which are the core of the relationship between the two countries.

The King also took the opportunity to thank Colombia for its past It sent its troops through UNTAC between 1992 and 1993, and through UNTAC, it helped facilitate the search for peace in Cambodia. Samdech Techo hopes that in her current role as Ambassador, she will work hard to work with the Cambodian government to further develop the relationship between the two countries.
